Man charged with drug offense after fight on East Avondale Ave.

YOUNGSTOWN — A man is set to be arraigned this afternoon after police were called to East Avondale Avenue for multiple calls of a fight between a male and a female.

Dispatchers advised Wednesday afternoon that a male had stabbed a female and ran towards Boston Avenue. He was wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt and checkered pants.

According to a police report, the female told police that Darnell Jennings came to her house at about 4 a.m. and woke her up. She said she had a previous relationship with Jennings but he does not stay there and they do not have children together.

They got into an argument, and Jennings, according to the report, forced the female’s head through a wall in the living room and then choked her, making her nearly pass out. He also cut her on her wrist and back of her knee with a sharp object, she stated in the report.

When ambulance personnel treated the woman, they said she might need stitches in the back of her knee.

Officers checked the area and found a male matching Jennings’ description in front of 3004 Southern Boulevard, according to the report. The man, identified as Jennings, had a warrant on another incident. He was taken into custody.

During a search, the report stated that officers found two OxyContin pills in a pocket. The report also listed various charges that were going to be filed, but only a felony drug possession charge is currently on file at the Youngstown Municipal Court.

Jennings is listed in court records as being 27 years old. No address for Jennings was provided in the police report.
