Four to represent diocese at Mujer Valiente Conference

YOUNGSTOWN — The Diocese of Youngstown has four representatives who will attend the Mujer Valiente Conference in Miami, Florida on Feb. 22 to 25.

Diocesan officials said four women have been selected to represent the diocese at the Pastoral Institute’s Mujer Valiente (“Valiant Woman”) Conference for Latina Catholic leaders. The three-day conference gathers aspiring women leaders from across the country. The criteria for selecting participants is love of Catholic faith, their desire to deepen it and their commitment to sharing it with others.

This year’s leaders include Cristina Hernandez, Maria Isabel Leon Onate, Ana Bertha Hernandez Duran and Sylvia Gould.

Hernandez is the Diocese of Youngstown’s Hispanic Ministry coordinator.

“To have this opportunity for us as a leader in our community is going to be a wonderful experience. We have one representative for every parish that has Spanish Mass. These three days are going to be a learning experience, communication and hope to learn about new resources for our community. Thank you to Catholic Extension and especially to Bishop Bonnar for the opportunity that we are going to have,” Hernandez said.

Participants will gather for theological lectures, communal prayer, reflection, discussion and networking. The conference is a collaboration between the Catholic Extension and Southeast Pastoral Institute.

The program is fully funded through Catholic Extension and other funding partners.
