17-year-old Poland student charged in alleged rape case

POLAND — Charges against a student at Poland Seminary High School have been filed for an alleged rape of another student.

According to a docket entry from the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division, the incident occurred between the 17-year-old student and victim last year. The student was arraigned on Jan. 17 and an employee of the court said the incident occurred in early December.

The charges listed on the complaint filed by a school resource officer include eight counts of rape, six counts of assault, 13 counts of pandering obscenity of a minor or impaired person, and three counts of illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance.

Attorney Joseph Ohlin and attorney Edward Hartwig entered a plea of denial on behalf of the student and waived his right to a speedy trial.

The student was ordered not to have contact or communication with the alleged victim. However, the court employee also said the student faces 10 added counts of telephone harassment and 10 counts of violation of a protection order.
