YOUNGSTOWN -- Damona D. Walker, 37, of North Hartford Avenue, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of felony burglary and misdemeanor contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child in a July 21 home-invasion incident on Millet Avenue in the West Side.
Joe Maxin, Mahoning County assistant prosecutor, told visiting judge Thomas Pokorny prosecutors will recommend that Walker get a period of local incarceration.
Maxin said he wanted the sentencing to be held later so that the victim in the case be present so he can explain his position on the sentence for Walker, adding that he believes the victim does not want Walker to be incarcerated.
A Youngstown police report states that when the victim arrived at his home, Walker and five juveniles got out of a vehicle screaming and yelling and broke out the front windows of the house. The victim said Walker pepper sprayed him as he tried to stop the group from going into his house.
Walker and the juveniles entered the home and Walker pepper sprayed everyone in the living room of the house and attacked a juvenile, pulling the juvenile's hair and punching her.
The man tried to stop Walker as one of the juveniles with Walker fought with a juvenile from inside the house, the report states. Walker and the juveniles with her left the house, but Walker realized she had left her keys and reentered the house, along with her children, after Walker kicked in the front door.
Walker found her keys and was exiting the house along with the juveniles with her when Youngstown police arrived.
The victim took an officer inside the house to show the damage to the house, and the officer was overcome by the pepper spray. Some of the residents of the home were also overcome by the chemical, the report states. Walker and all of the juveniles with Walker were arrested. Walker was indicted on aggravated burglary and contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child.
The juveniles were all taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center. The several children in the house were treated by ambulance personnel for exposure to the pepper spray.
After Walker's guilty plea Thursday, she remained free on bond to await sentencing at 10:30 a.m. March 7.
