BOARDMAN -- A man is in custody following a raid Thursday at a Boardman home.
Township Police Chief Todd Werth said his department executed a search warrant at 175 Shields Road.
Police arrested John Darrius Johnson, 35, whose address in court records is listed as the same house police searched, on a felony charge of having weapons under disability and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
"While there, we encountered the individual, and determined that an arrest was warranted based on those charges," Werth said.
Werth said officers found and confiscated at least one firearm during the search, but declined to say more because the warrant and arrest are part of an ongoing investigation.
Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Mahoning County Court #2 in Boardman, according to court records. He is due back in court Tuesday, the records state.
According to court records, Johnson's criminal history dates back at least to 2009, when he was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon. A year later, he was convicted of having weapons under disability after an arrest in Struthers. Another felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon was dismissed.
The case was bound over to Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, where former Judge James Evans imposed a suspended sentence of two years and ordered Johnson into a drug treatment program.
Since then, Johnson has been arrested at least five more times by Boardman police, and at least four of those cases have been bound over to common pleas court. In addition to other felony weapons charges, Johnson has been convicted on charges of receiving stolen property and felony drug possession, records show.
