YOUNGSTOWN -- Christopher M. Edmondson Jr., 30, Garfield Heights, was indicted Thursday on aggravated robbery and felonious assault charges in a Dec. 6 incident involving his girlfriend in front of the Ace Hardware store, 451 Boardman Canfield Road.

When police arrived for the 2:45 p.m. incident, they found the woman on the sidewalk with numerous concerned individuals surrounding her. She had a laceration near her eyebrow and a laceration near her hairline, as well as blood on her face, hair and hands.

There also was blood on the firewood rack and firewood in front of the business.

A witness said she saw a man, later identified as Edmondson, punching the woman repeatedly. He kept hitting her as she fell to the ground, and Edmondson also "hit her head on the firewood stack, then picked up all her items and left," the witness said.

Citizens told the officer Edmondson was walking in a nearby parking lot. Officers detained Edmondson from the front passenger seat of a car. An unidentified person identified Edmondson as the "suspect," the police report states. The name of the individual identifying Edmondson was blacked out in the report, apparently as a requirement of Marsy's Law, which protects the identity of victims of crime.

A wallet was recovered from Edmondson's jacket pocket, apparently belonging to the victim. The report states that the victim was given the wallet back at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she went for treatment. The victim's age, name and address were not given in the report as a result of the protections under Marsy's Law.

Police officers took Edmondson to the police station, where he was charged with the aggravated robbery and felonious assault. He also had a warrant from Cuyahoga County for robbery, the report states.

The woman told police she had been dating Edmondson for about a month. She said they were in her car and started arguing. He took her wallet and started walking toward the hardware store. She tried to retrieve her wallet from him, but she was not successful, and Edmondson started hitting her in the face, so she tried to run.

Edmondson was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He has remained there since Dec. 6, according to jail records.
