Youngstown resident indicted on attempted murder, felonious assault
Incident occurred Oct. 10 on city’s South Side
YOUNGSTOWN — A woman was indicted this week on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault, and a man was indicted on a charge of felonious assault in separate incidents that happened in the fall.
Indicted in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and single counts of vehicular assault, inducing panic and criminal damaging or endangering is Cicelia S. Mayfield, 29, of Woodcrest Avenue.
The charges stem from an Oct. 10 incident in the 1300 block of Ivanhoe Avenue on the South Side. Police were called there and heard gunfire one street over. Ivanhoe Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue are one street away from each other.
An officer saw a car being driven through a yard at Jean Street and Ivanhoe Avenue toward the officer and a man running after the vehicle. Mayfield got out of the car and told the officer she had been shot at. The man had blood spatter on his shirt sleeves, a report states. He was placed in handcuffs.
Mayfield and another woman then started to fight 10 feet from the officer. He pointed his stun gun at them and commanded them to stop fighting, which they did, the report states.
Neighbors watching the situation said Mayfield had been trying to hit people with her car. The man was released, and Mayfield was detained, the report states. Her car had damage to the front bumper. Police were told someone fired a gun at Mayfield’s vehicle while she was trying to run the man over, the report states.
Two bullet shell casings were found in a driveway on Ivanhoe Avenue, and Mayfield’s car had four bullet holes in it. Mayfield was taken to the Mahoning County jail, the report states.
Patrick A. Gaitor-Shabazz, 51, of the Mahoning County jail, was indicted Thursday on a charge of felonious assault with a notice of prior conviction and a repeat violent offender specification for a Sept. 20 incident at a boarding home in the first block of Illinois Avenue on the North Side in which a man suffered an apparently serious stab wound of the abdomen.
Gaitor-Shabazz has been in the Mahoning County jail since Sept. 20, according to jail records. While his case was in Youngstown Municipal Court, an evaluation was carried out and Gaitor Shabazz was ruled to be competent to stand trial in November.
When police arrived at Illinois Avenue, they found the victim, 63, who also lived in the home, on a gurney being attended to by ambulance personnel. He had a stab wound to his stomach, a Youngstown police report stated.
Paramedics said the wound came from a sharp object. An officer observed a 3-inch stab wound.
According to the report, a staff member at the boarding home helped police locate Gaitor-Shabazz on a back deck and he was taken into custody. A police officer observed blood on a blanket and blood drops leading to the back of the building.
At the hospital, the victim was intubated and unconscious but in stable condition, the report stated.
