Shoppers get out with gift cards, Christmas cash

NILES -- Eastwood Mall is a gathering place this week as shoppers look for post-holiday sales, use their Christmas money or gift cards, return or exchange gifts, or just spend time with their families.
Among those who headed to Boscov's at the mall Tuesday was Diana Lininger.
"I love this store and I got a gift card for Christmas so I'm spending it," she said. "They have the best deals and (the employees are) so helpful."
Lininger, who is from Girard, said the gift card was for $100.
"I needed a crossover bag because I use a cane now and to walk with a regular purse and a cane is difficult," she said.
Nanette Peterson of Cortland went to Boscov's to shop with her significant other and his family.
She said they were "using up some Christmas money."
"We like Boscov's," Peterson said. "They always have good sales and a nice selection."
Marilyn Foster of Champion went to Boscov's to do after-Christmas shopping for her grandkids.
"They have good sales here," she said. "I was impressed with their toys. I never looked at toys here until before Christmas. This is where I got all their toys."
Brittany Yonce of Niles said she went to the mall to return a slide she bought as a gift from Target and to look for deals throughout the mall.
She said she was able to find sales on wrapping paper and gift bags.
"We've been shopping since 7 a.m.," Yonce said. "We got a lot of good deals at Target."
She said shopping the day after Christmas with her family is a yearly tradition.
Jody Deweese grew up in Niles and moved to North Carolina. He said he came here for Christmas to visit his family and was out shopping with his aunt, who had store credit to spend at Boscov's.
Deweese said he got a jacket for $20 that was originally $60.
Chelsea Elkins of North Carolina also came here to visit her family for Christmas and shop with them at Boscov's. She grew up in Louisville, Ohio.
"I'm kind of just along for the ride," she said. "My aunt and mom are obsessed with this store (Boscov's) and they were like 'you have to come here.' I love it so far. I haven't gotten through the whole thing (store), but it is exciting."
Ray Sharkey of Youngstown said he came to Boscov's so his wife "can buy some things they don't need."
"I just figured they got to have some good sales today," he said. "I think this store is very nice. It has a lot of items."
Pam Wildman of Champion said she was shopping at not only Boscov's, but also "looking for sales inside, outside and all over."
