Hubbard police officer found guilty of failure to yield

HUBBARD — Sgt. Christopher Moffitt of the Hubbard City Police Department pleaded no contest and was found guilty Tuesday of failure to yield.

The verdict was reached against Moffitt Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court before Judge Jeffrey Adler.

Hubbard Police Chief Robert Thompson previously stated that Moffitt was responding to a domestic violence call when his cruiser was struck earlier this month. Thompson acknowledged Moffitt turned left in front of the other vehicle, but the driver of that car was speeding.

Thompson said an officer was already at the scene by the time Moffitt arrived. He also said Moffitt’s lights and sirens weren’t on when the crash happened.

“He was pulling into the parking lot of where they were going to the call when the crash happened,” Thompson said. “It happened on the roadway in front of the parking lot. He was no longer in an emergency response, (because it was no longer an emergency.)”
