Canfield trustees approve 2024 budget
CANFIELD — Township trustees are looking to pave several roads in 2024.
Trustees Brian Governor, Marie Cartwright and Joe Paloski approved a temporary 2024 budget that included $1,240,980 in road paving projects during their final meeting of 2023 on Wednesday.
The projects were divided into two, with the first being the Briarwood Court project. The cost came in at $445,220 and includes grinding and a new surface.
The second project is a list of streets that will be handled through a possible loan, a possible Ohio Public Works Commission grant and the quarter-percent sales tax. This is the second year for the sales tax funds. It is expected to bring in $289,311 in 2024.
On the paving list for 2024 (separate from the Briarwood Project) are the following list of streets: Augusta Hills Court, Mission Hills Drive, Chapel Hills Court, Villa Rosa Drive, Albany Court, Montereale Drive, Francesca Drive, Dorado Beach Drive, Mametta Drive, Belle Terreno Drive, Samuel Court and Sperone Court. The total cost for paving the streets is $795,760.
“That’s the plan but it is subject to change,” Chairman Brian Governor said.
Timbercrest Drive also will be on the list for paving through a joint project with Mahoning County. It will carry an $86,000 township match.
Also included will be paving at Dean Hill Cemetery, which adds another $20,000 to the budget, and possibly four more speed tables.
Speed tables are raised sections of pavement that will cause a speeding vehicle to bottom out. The tables normally are placed at intersections on roads where speeding is a problem.
“We have one on Tyler Drive,” Governor said. “We are waiting to see how they hold up over the winter.”
Speed tables are supposed to be easy to plow and should stand up to being plowed. Because it is a first in Canfield Township, trustees prefer to see how the Tyler Drive speed table survives the coming cold months before actively pursuing more.
