Youngstown man faces life sentence in child rape charges

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Mark Andrews, 64, of Hilton Avenue, was indicted on two counts of child rape that could result in a life prison sentence if he is convicted.

Rita D. Crockett, 60, whose address is the same as Andrews, also was indicted on a charge of child endangering in the same case.

In addition to rape, Andrews was indicted on felonious assault and child endangering. If convicted of felonious assault, Andrews could get 10 years more added to his sentence.

The alleged victim in all of the charges was less than 13 years old when the offenses allegedly occurred last December, according to court documents.

Crockett is alleged to have created a substantial risk to the health or safety of the child by violating a duty of care, protection or support.

Andrews is scheduled for a pretrial hearing before Judge Anthony D’Apolito Nov. 30 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Crockett will be arraigned Nov. 28 in the same courthouse.
