Woman arrested on shoplifting

Accused of stealing $4.2K worth of merchandise

BOARDMAN — A Youngstown woman is spending Thanksgiving in jail after being arrested on warrants for multiple counts of theft at local stores.

Police and loss prevention managers at the Lowe’s and Walmart in Boardman accuse Jessica Johnson of stealing more than $4,200 worth of merchandise on at least 10 separate occasions since July, either through fraudulent returns or outright shoplifting.

Johnson, 38, of Glenaven Avenue, was arrested on a warrant on Nov. 20, and was arraigned by video on Tuesday before Mahoning County Boardman Court Judge Joseph Houser for charges filed before Nov. 18. One of the charges is a fifth-degree felony and the rest are first-degree misdemeanors. She pleaded not guilty.

Houser imposed a $3,500 cash or surety bond, and set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 19. Johnson also is due for an arraignment hearing Nov. 28 for an alleged offense on Nov. 18.

According to one Boardman Police Department report, Johnson is accused of stealing more than $1,300 in merchandise from Walmart on four separate occasions between July 18 and Aug. 16. The manager told police Johnson pulled items off shelves and fraudulently returned the items for store credit.

The report states that the incidents were caught on security cameras.

Walmart filed a separate report for an incident on July 26, in which Johnson is accused of stealing $432 worth of flooring.

Then, on Aug. 19, Johnson allegedly stole more than $600 in merchandise, including a $429 Weber grill, which she returned a few days later in exchange for store credit, according to a report.

On Oct. 15, Johnson was accused of stealing more than $360 worth of paint from Walmart. According to a report, she was confronted at the exit and asked for a receipt, but told security she opted for an emailed receipt and walked out.

Another report states that on Nov. 18, Johnson was caught on camera at Lowe’s. She is accused of stealing two gallons of paint and eight boxes of vinyl flooring. Police responded to Lowe’s to take that report on Tuesday, a day after Johnson was arrested at the store while allegedly attempting to shoplift.

On Nov. 20, police responded to Lowe’s after security detained Johnson at the door as she attempted to exit the store with more than $800 in merchandise, according to a police report.
