AUSTINTOWN -- A horse-racing jockey at the Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course is out on bond after being charged with assaulting another jockey Tuesday.

According to an Austintown Police Department report, officers arrived Tuesday afternoon to find one jockey in the back of an ambulance, wearing a neck brace, with a cut above his right eye. The man told police who assaulted him and they attempted to question that man, identified as Christian Pilares-Moyohuilca, 39, of Homeworth. Moyohuilca refused to speak and asked for an attorney.

The report states that police viewed the surveillance video from the racino. The video shows the victim walking near the stables when Pilares-Moyohuilca approaches him and walked next to him briefly before punching him in the head without warning.

Pilares-Moyohuilca allegedly continued to attack the jockey on the floor of one of the stables until other jockeys pulled him away from the man, at which point Pilares-Moyohuilca kicked the jockey in the head, according to a police report.

Police arrested Pilares-Moyohuilca and he spent the night in Mahoning County Jail before his arraignment Wednesday morning in Mahoning County Boardman Court. He pleaded not guilty to assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, and Judge Scott Hunter imposed a $2,500 cash or surety bond and set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 11.

Hunter also ordered that Pilares-Moyohuilca have no contact with the other jockey.
