YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Coroner's Office has identified the man shot to death early Monday at a home in the 110 block of Park Hill Drive on the South Side as Alfred Hall, 42.

He was killed and his girlfriend, 43, was wounded by gunfire reported at 4:46 a.m. Monday at the home, which is near the Mill Creek MetroParks Police Department on Glenwood Avenue.

Police were called there for a shooting and found the couple inside the home, according to a newly released Youngstown police report. Life-saving procedures were performed, but Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for her injuries. She suffered serious injuries, police said.

An earlier news release stated the shootings appeared to be a "directed crime" and that it indicated "no danger to the public at large." It added that the public has been an "instrumental partner with providing information on violent crimes, and we once again ask that anyone with information contact the YPD Detective Division to assist with helping to solve this senseless incident."

The news release referred to the episode as a homicide and felonious assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or the police department at 330-746-8YPD with any information or tips, which can be left anonymously.

This marks the 19th homicide of the year in the city. The previous homicide took place Nov. 19, when Christian D. Oliver, 29, was found shot to death in the double-digit block of Zents Avenue near Logan Avenue on the North Side, and a woman, 72, was found injured by gunfire.

Police later said they believed the woman was shot while checking to see what was going on in her neighborhood.

Youngstown had 24 homicides during 2022. The total includes the April 1, 2022, shooting death of James Sheets by Struthers police officers during a confrontation at Salt Springs Road and Steel Street in Youngstown.

The 2023 homicide toll includes the Oct. 12 officer-involved shooting death of Ricco Acevedo, 45, by Youngstown police at a home on Helena Avenue on the South Side.
