Canfield zoning change approved

CANFIELD — City council held a public hearing Wednesday on a proposed ordinance to amend Canfield Codified Ordinance 1141.11 to expand allowable uses in an R /O Residential Office Zoning District.

The ordinance retitled the district as a residential office and limited commercial district. The change would allow for residential dwellings up to four dwellings per structure, professional offices, fraternal lodges and private clubs, funeral homes and mortuaries, bed-and-breakfast businesses, artisan studies (such as photography and art galleries), financial institutions without drive-thru facilities, cafes / bars / restaurants without drive-thru facilities, medical clinics, retail stores and personal service establishments.

City attorney Mark Fortunato said the new ordinance would prefer the cafes to the large restaurants, or small artisan shops instead of big-box hobby stores. The ordinance was approved unanimously by planning and zoning. City council unanimously approved it.
