Police reveal unusual detail of a homicide Monday in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police revealed in a report a new detail in the Monday morning shooting death of 40-year-old Alexis Rivera-Ramos: His body was found underneath a vehicle.
When police arrived for the 12:31 a.m. shooting in the first block of South Bruce Street on the East Side, four men were there, stating that “there was a male shot under a vehicle in the driveway.”
Officers then located the victim under a Hyundai Tucson. The man was not breathing, but officers could not tell initially where he had been shot, the report states.
Ambulance personnel pulled the man from under the car, and an apparent gunshot wound was found on the man’s inner thigh. Ambulance personnel declared him dead at 12:48 a.m.
A Mahoning County Coroner’s Office news release indicated that an autopsy would be carried out on Rivera Ramos’ body, and an investigation is also being carried out by the Youngstown Police Department.
When Capt. Jason Simon, head of the detective division, was asked whether investigators attached any significance to finding the victim under a car, he said no.
Rivera-Ramos’ death is the 10th homicide of the year in Youngstown. It was the second one in 48 hours.
Troy Adkins, 26, was found shot to death, face down on the sidewalk in the area of New York and Kensington avenues on the North Side at 2:27 a.m. Saturday. He was found with no identification, but the coroner’s office identified him on Monday.
The two killing locations are about three miles apart. The city had 23 homicides in all of 2022.
