Kayakers locate decomposed body in Mosquito Creek
NILES — Niles Police and the Trumbull County coroner’s office is investigating after kayakers on Sunday afternoon discovered a badly decomposed human body in Mosquito Creek.
Niles police Capt. John Marshall said officers responded shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday after being called by kayakers to the area where Mosquito Creek intersects the Mahoning River near the Dinesol Plastics property off East Park Avenue.
Marshall said the Trumbull County coroner’s office took possession of the body. He said because it was so badly decomposed, police could not definitively determine the age, gender, how long the body had been in the river nor how it got there.
Marshall said investigators will wait for word from the coroner’s office before releasing further details on identity and cause of death.
