YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman, 41, was killed, and a girl, 17, was injured in a 2:14 a.m. shooting Sunday at 136 E. Avondale Ave. on the South Side.
Police were sent to the home for a shooting and found the two gunshot victims, who were transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, according to a Youngstown Police Department news release.
The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting site is near Southern Boulevard. The police department's detective division and crime scene unit were dispatched and began an investigation.
The homicide is the seventh this year in Youngstown, with the previous homicide being reported at 3:54 p.m. July 1. Jason Sitnic, 37, of South Avenue, was found shot to death in the middle of North Evanston Avenue on the West Side near Mahoning Avenue.
Police found six shell casings in the area. No arrests have been made.
Emergency medical technicians who responded to the shooting found Sitnic not breathing and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The homicide before that was the 12:30 a.m. May 19 shooting death of London Jones, 13, along the sidewalk in the 400 block of Carroll Drive on the South Side.
Shamara C. Green, 29, was charged with murder in the death and later indicted on charges of murder with a gun specification, involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide in the shooting.
Green also was indicted on a charge of felonious assault in the shooting of a man, 26, that apparently happened at the same time. Police said they learned of the man being shot in the foot about a half hour after they arrived at the shooting scene and found London critically injured.
Officers found eight spent bullet shell casings near the girl. Police said the shootings happened during a "disagreement" among adults in an alcohol-fueled party atmosphere.
Youngstown had 23 homicides in 2022.
