US reps for Valley tally robust funds
U.S. Reps. Bill Johnson and Dave Joyce, who represent the Mahoning Valley in the House of Representatives, both enjoy large campaign cash surpluses with the two up for re-election next year.
Johnson, R-Marietta, who represents Mahoning County, had $1,236,679 in his fund as of June 30 after collecting $366,850 in the second quarter of this year.
Joyce, R-Bainbridge, who represents Trumbull County, had $2,135,757 in his campaign fund as of June 30 after raising $222,086 during the second quarter.
6TH DISTRICT
Johnson, first elected to Congress in 2010, received $198,500 from political action committees and $168,260 from individual donors, with the rest of the $366,850 he raised in the second quarter from rebates and refunds.
Johnson received $5,000 maximum contributions in the second quarter from PACs representing the aluminum industry, chemistry council, American Crystal Sugar Co, Charter Communication, Comcast Corp, L3 Harris Technologies, Marathon Petroleum Corp, the internet and television association, Valero Energy Corp. and the operating engineers union.
He also received a $10,000 contribution — $5,000 for the 2024 primary and $5,000 for the general election — from Memorial Health System of Marietta.
Johnson spent $183,816 in the second quarter with his largest expenses being $68,321 to 814 Consulting for fundraising consulting and $22,500 to Ironclad Consulting Inc. of Hilliard, also for fundraising consulting.
Johnson reported in the second quarter a $1,413 travel expense at the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne, Fla., a $597 expense for a stay at the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Canton and a $332 stay at a Hyatt Hotel at an unlisted location.
Through the first six months of this year, Johnson has raised $571,456 and spent $394,107.
Johnson had $1,236,679 in his campaign fund as of June 30, which included carryover from previous elections.
Johnson’s solid Republican district includes all of Mahoning, Columbiana, Carroll, Jefferson, Belmont, Harrison, Monroe, Noble and Washington counties and portions of Stark and Tuscarawas counties. Mahoning is the district’s most-populous county.
14TH DISTRICT
Joyce, first elected to the 14th Congressional District seat in 2012 , received $148,486 from political action committees from April to June, and $72,525 from individual donors. He also received $1,075 in refunds and rebates, most coming from a $1,039 refund from FP1 Strategies of Arlington, Va., from his unused broadcasting advertising fund.
Joyce received $5,000 maximum contributions in the second quarter from PACs representing AT&T, BASF Corp. (a major chemical company), Microsoft, Molina Healthcare of Ohio, wine and spirits wholesalers, manufacturers and unions representing ironworkers and operating engineers.
Joyce spent $125,133 in the second quarter with his largest expense, by far, being $61,283 to 814 Consulting of Alexandria, Va., for fundraising consulting and event expenses.
He listed a $2,257 expense for lodging at Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Islamorada in the Florida Keys and a $985 bill for a stay at the Salamander Resort and Spa in Middleburg, Va.
Through the first six months of this year, Joyce has raised $557,503 for his re-election campaign and has spent $377,007, according to his campaign finance reports.
With carryover from previous campaigns, Joyce had $2,135,757 in his fund as of June 30.
Joyce’s Republican congressional district includes all of Trumbull, Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake counties and all but two communities in Portage County. Trumbull is the second most-populous county in the district behind Lake.
