Mount Carmel festivals set in Girard and Niles

The annual Mount Carmel festivals will take place this week in Girard and Niles, providing visitors with food, entertainment and family fun.

• The Girard Mount Carmel Festival will run Wednesday to Sunday at the Italian Fraternal Home, 33 W. Wilson Ave. The midway is open 6 to 11 p.m. each night. Admission is free.

The festival will include live entertainment nightly, with bands from Girard and the surrounding area, carnival games, amusement attractions, basket raffle, 50-50 raffle, evening concerts and bingo. Musical performances are Blue Collar Band on Wednesday, Common Ground on Thursday, Cin City Saints on Friday, Dead Flowers on Saturday and Girard Swingtime Band and Blue Coat Band on Sunday.

The parade will be at 10 a.m. Sunday followed by Mass 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church. The parade will travel from the IFH grounds on Wilson Avenue to State Street to the church.

Fireworks by Zambelli will be at 11 p.m. Sunday by the Justin Leo Memorial Bridge.

East Liberty Street between U.S. Route 422 and Marshall Road at the viaduct bridge will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday. The recommended detour is south on Route 422, west on Interstate 80, northwest on Salt Springs Youngstown Road, and northeast on West Liberty Street.

• The Niles Mount Carmel Festival will be Thursday to Sunday at the church grounds, 381 Robbins Ave., marking the 90th year for the celebration. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The festival will include a variety of parish food, amusement rides, games, bingo and a $16,000 Sunday night raffle with $100 nightly drawings.

Live entertainment includes Rex Taneri Orchestra on Thursday, Random Strangers on Friday, The House Band on Saturday and Vegas Band on Sunday.

The church is having a new center constructed on the southwestern part of the property that will begin being used later this year.
