Man pleads not guilty in shooting
23-year-old woman hit in chest in Liberty
Bond was set at $100,000 Wednesday for a Liberty Township man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the chest on Tuesday.
Isaiah L. Garcia, 23, was arrested Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty to charges of felonious assault and using weapons while intoxicated in the Fourth of July shooting in the 3400 block of Ohio Trail in Liberty.
Township police were dispatched about 1:30 p.m. and found the woman, also 23, in the living room, a police report states. She was transported by the Liberty Fire Department to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she was said to be in stable condition.
Neighbor Ashley Mammone, 36, has lived on Ohio Trail about five years and called the shooting unusual for what she describes as a “very quiet” neighborhood.
Mammone, a mother of four, said she was doing yard work in the backyard on Tuesday and at first was not aware of what had happened.
“I was very shocked because I didn’t even hear a gunshot,” Mammone said. “One of my kids wandered up front and noticed all the police cars. So when I came up I saw the police and them putting tape around the house.”
Garcia was taken into custody at the scene and taken to the Trumbull County jail. He will return to Girard Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing July 13.
