Judge: Man competent to face charges

Jeremy E. Telego, 41, accused in Boardman kidnapping, assault

YOUNGSTOWN — Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has found Jeremy E. Telego, 41, formerly of New Springfield, competent to stand trial after Telego spent several months at a state mental hospital.

In February, the judge ordered Telego to be sent to the Massillon facility for up to a year so that staff could try to restore him to competency. Mental health professionals stated at the time that Telego could be restored to competency.

Telego is indicted on kidnapping, felonious assault, abduction and aggravated menacing.

Boardman police arrested Telego on warrants July 18, 2022, at a motel in Boardman.

Telego is accused of holding a woman against her will July 16 and 17, and assaulting her at the Wagon Wheel Motel, 7015 Market St. The woman said she had been at a concert July 16 with Telego, and he became intoxicated.

She said they argued on the way to the motel, and then he pulled her out of the car and dragged her across a parking lot and into the motel room. He also would not let her leave and assaulted her, she said.

She eventually escaped through a bathroom window while Telego was sleeping, she said. She was treated at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital for injuries to her ear and bruising elsewhere on her body.
