Girard adds slot for associate superintendent

Principal Julianne Ware to get job at $96K annually

GIRARD — The Girard Board of Education has created the position of associate superintendent and named Principal Julianne Ware for the 2023-24 school year.

The board at a recent meeting approved the job description.

Ware, who currently serves as principal at the intermediate school will begin serving as associate superintendent on Aug. 1 at an annual salary of $96,000.

Ware will resign her principal position effective July 31.

Officials said the duties of the associate superintendent include:

• Assist all administrators and staff with the linking of the strategic plan priorities with instruction, staff development, and financial goals and operation;

• Monitor the development of pre-K-12 grade courses of study, adoption of instructional resources and material, and the selection of instructional supplies and equipment.

• Direct the district professional development program and ensure its interrelationship with student achievement.

• Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations and conferences through membership, attendance, and / or presentation.

• Provide support for local state and federal utilization of grants.

• Provide leadership in the implementation of academic programs throughout the district.

• Collect and analyze performance data regarding the achievement of students, work samples and other pertinent information affecting the design and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices.

Ware will assume the essential duties and responsibilities in the superintendent’s absence.

SECURITY CAMERAS

In other business the school board is proceeding with two projects to be done this summer.

The district will be getting new security cameras at the four school buildings. covered by a $400,000 safety grant approved by Gov. Mike DeWine.

Treasurer Mark Bello said each school building will receive $100,000 with work to be done this summer on on installation of the cameras.

Bello said work also is being planned for paving parking lots at Prospect Elementary School, the intermediate school, the football stadium and the bus garage.

Officials said bids are currently being sought for both projects.

Superintendent Brian O’Hara said the new and upgraded camera system will be purchased through the state safety grant.

In other action, the board:

• Established the Joseph and Virginia Cochran Memorial Scholarship Fund. Joseph Cochran was a longtime high school principal;

• Approved proceeding with getting a 78-passenger school bus chassis and body through bids received by the Ohio Schools Council:

• Hired Kaitlin Groscost as a Prospect Elementary teacher, Jonathan Camuso as a kindergarten teacher, Frances Hall as a sixth-grade teacher, Stephanie Snyder as a multiple disabilities intervention specialist, Samantha Dohy as high school language arts, Danielle Rudloff as elementary school counselor, Lisa Hall as nurse at St. Rose School, Miranda Domiano as intervention specialist at St Rose School, Ciara Bello and Travis Hecker, both as technology assistants;

• Approved transfer of Madelyn Annarella from elementary school counselor to sixth grade teacher, Tara Morgan from third grade to first grade, and Jenna Ramsey from second grade to third grade.

• Approved participating in the Success by Six summer program through the United Way, which will reimburse costs. The program will be offered to elementary children from July 10 to 28.
