4th man is jailed in S. Side gunfight

YOUNGSTOWN — Javon Mixon, 24, is in the Mahoning County jail, the last of four men charged in a May 22 gunfight on West Ravenwood Avenue that involved at least one shot being fired in the direction of a woman.

Mixon of St. Louis Avenue was booked into the jail Tuesday on four counts of complicity to felonious assault, but as of Wednesday afternoon, he had no court date for his arraignment in Youngstown Municipal Court. He is listed as not being eligible to make bond.

Three co-defendants: Tilden L. Johnson, 21, of West Evergreen Avenue; Tyre D. Washington, 19, of St. Louis Avenue; and Labreilan M. Wilson, 19, of Cornell Avenue, were taken into custody May 22 and were arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Johnson and Wilson were released from jail Friday after each posting $5,000 bond. Washington also was released Friday after posting $6,500 bond.

A police report states officers were called just after 3 p.m. to West Ravenwood for a fight with gunfire. On their way, they learned a Chevrolet Malibu that was involved fled and had been detained by Mill Creek MetroParks police not far away on West Newport Drive.

The victim of the gunfire told police she was leaning into a car containing her 3-month-old child on West Ravenwood Avenue when someone in a Malibu shot at her car, which was struck. Officers found one spent bullet shell casing in the street near her car, the report states.

Officers also found three more spent bullet shell casings a short distance away on West Ravenwood. A witness told police a second person in the car also was shooting from a back passenger window. The witness provided a video. Another person said he or she was in his or her vehicle when a bullet skipped off of his or her vehicle and hit a nearby house, the report states.

On West Newport, a witness said the person who did the shooting fled the vehicle into the woods when the car came to a stop. The three men in the Malibu were detained by police, according to the report.

FOURTH MAN

Under questioning by police, the three men in custody said they picked up the fourth man on Newport Drive and went to West Ravenwood, where the fourth man put on a ski mask and fired out of the front passenger car window.

Officers learned the fourth man had left Newport Drive in a Chrysler Sebring after a witness told police the Sebring was not involved, according to the report. All three people told police they did not know the fourth man was going to fire a gun.

Police used social media to determine the identity of the fourth man as Mixon and determined he was in the Chrysler Sebring that left the area, a report states. Police recovered a driver’s license and concealed carry permit for Mixon in the Malibu, the report states.
