Bond of $1M set in killing of girl, 13

YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Renee DiSalvo of Youngstown Municipal Court set bond at $1 million Monday during arraignment for Shamara C. Green, 29, accused in the Friday morning shooting death of London Jones, 13.

No plea was required on the single counts of murder and felonious assault.

During the hearing, Elliousa Baier, city assistant law director, asked the judge for the $1 million bond and for an order for Green to have no contact with the victim of the felonious assault, a male.

The judge did not ask for any details on the reason for the high bond. Green did not speak during the hearing.

London was killed by gunfire in the 400 block of Carroll Street on the South Side. She was standing on the sidewalk when the gunfire happened. Eight bullet shell casings were recovered.

London was wounded fatally about 12:30 a.m. Friday and was pronounced dead later that morning at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Green, from the Columbus area, was arrested — charged with murder later that day. She has since been in the jail.

This was the second shooting death of a teen girl in Youngstown in six weeks. Amya Monserrat, 15, was killed April 15 from gunfire outside a Southern Boulevard bar and grill where she was attending a party.

According to police, homeowners in the Carroll Street area said such parties are a “common occurrence,” as “mini block parties.” Police said neighbors told them they lock their doors in case of something tragic happening.

Investigators did not release information about the argument that preceded London’s shooting, but did describe it as a “disagreement” among the adults there.

Police said Green and London’s mother knew each other and were friends.

Meanwhile a family member of London’s posted a message on a gofundme page saying she is “London’s only ‘blood sister,'” and the gofundme account is for funeral expenses.

“London Jones was loved by everyone and brought brightness to any room she walked all the time,” the relative identified as “Dynasti” stated. Shaquanna Madison is organizing the fundraiser, which had raised $2,335 by Monday evening, according to the page.
