WARREN -- A Youngstown man was sent to prison for 18 months on convictions for multiple drug offenses.
Tyquon J. Myers, 23, of Oregon Avenue, appeared Wednesday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Cynthia Rice after he had pleaded guilty March 22 to two counts aggravated possession of drugs, three counts possession of fentanyl-related compound and one count possession of cocaine. The case stemmed from Myers' Feb. 2, 2022, arrest by Warren police.
Myers told the judge he accepted responsibility for the offenses.
In another drug case before a Trumbull County judge on Wednesday, Ademilson J. Smith, 30, of Market Street, Youngstown, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated possession of drugs.
Smith was sentenced by Judge Sean O'Brien to nine months in prison, which will be served at the same time as a nine-month term Smith received Tuesday from Judge Andrew D. Logan for a similar drug offense.
The latest case occurred Sept. 12, 2022, when Liberty police found Smith with 0.63 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop at Belmont Avenue and Excellence Drive, prosecutors said.
In other drug-related cases:
• Leamon Joe, 34, of Aris Street SW, Warren, was arraigned on a six-count case involving trafficking and possession of a fentanyl-related compound. Joe was arrested on the secret indictment Wednesday and brought to Judge Ronald J. Rice's courtroom, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges that include four fifth-degree trafficking charges and a second-degree fentanyl possession and a fourth-degree cocaine possession charge. Rice set bond at $25,000 including a pretrial service where Joe has to undergo periodic drug tests. His next pre-trial is set for April 18.
• Marcus L. Henderson, 40, of Oak Street SW, Warren, pleaded guilty to a charge of trafficking in cocaine. Henderson, who could face a prison sentence of between six and 12 months, will be sentenced by Rice after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers. Henderson was part of a Trumbull Action Group drug task force investigation in which a confidential informant bought 0.47 grams of cocaine on June 11, 2021.
• John R. Buckner, 50, of Canton, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated possession of drugs. Buckner will be sentenced by Judge Cynthia Rice after his background report is completed. He was stopped by the state highway patrol Oct. 9, 2020, in Howland for driving without a license. A search of the vehicle came up with substances that later tested positive for more than one gram each of methamphetamine and metheylenedioxy, prosecutors said.
• Austin M. Groff, 27, of Aris Street, Warren, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony of operating a vehicle under the influence. He will submit to a background investigation and face a mandatory fine and some jail time, Rice said. His driver's license will be suspended for a period from three years to life. Groff, who has three prior OVI convictions, was stopped Nov. 22, 2022, by Niles police after driving recklessly in a parking lot. His blood-alcohol content tested to be .241, according to prosecutors, well over Ohio's driving limit of .08.
• Michael Coulter, 27, of Forsythe Avenue, Girard, pleaded guilty to a three-count drug possession indictment dealing with illegal prescription narcotics. Coulter's conviction will be held in abeyance until he completes or fails in a rehabilitation program, O'Brien said. Coulter's arrest occurred June 16, 2022, after Girard police searched his home with a warrant and found the illegal medication.
• Kavaughndalyn Hall, 26, of West Marion Avenue, Youngstown, appeared before O'Brien Wednesday after she failed multiple drug tests during her probation for a 2021 conviction for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine. Hall was taken into custody until a bed is available at the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program, a rehabilitation that teaches life skills. Hall's attorney said her client had endured a house fire that rendered her and her children homeless.
