AUSTINTOWN -- Saving Our Seniors of the Mahoning Valley met at the Austintown Senior Center on Friday to pack 270 meals for homebound seniors and adults with disabilities around the county. They then packed the cars of volunteer drivers. About 35 drivers each got a route and went to a total of 225 households.
Each meal consisted of ham, made locally by The Meating Place, potatoes, vegetables and a roll. Each senior also received a chocolate bunny from Giannios Candy and a handmade card from the Austintown Local Schools.
The Mahoning County commissioners helped to fund the meals, making them free for those who got them. Along with the meals, each senior also got a canvas bag with information on local resources.
Saving Our Seniors is comprised of volunteers from Direction Home of Eastern Ohio, Easterseals, Adult Protective Services, The Mahoning County Senior Sheriffs Division, Communicare, Comfort Keepers and Comfort Care-a-Van.
