Rulli introduces school safety bill

State Sen. Michael Rulli introduced a bill to address to mandate regular inspections and maintenance of doors in school buildings to make those buildings more secure.

Called the Ohio Childhood Safety Act, Rulli, R-Salem, said the bill would ensure that all access doors meet life safety standards to add an extra layer of security for staff and students.

The bill would ensure that all “protective door assemblies in school buildings are compliant with life safety standards to minimize the risk of injury or death in the event of a fire, intruders or active shooters,” Rulli said.

He added: “The best way to defeat an attack and protect our children in the classroom is to make sure the attacker never gets inside the building in the first place.
