CANFIELD -- Potential Development High School students experienced hands-on some of the programs offered at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center Adult Career Center.
During the Thursday interactive tour, juniors and seniors were given live demonstrations from instructors who also took questions from students, giving them a feel for skills they'd learn in the welding program and automotive technology lab, among others.
Students also got to check out a fire truck as they learned about the firefighting program, learning basic skills and witnessing a live-fire training.
PDHS transition counselor Jessica Tirone said students got a mock ambulance demonstration as part of the tour of the emergency medical technician program, showing students how to provide first-aid treatment, life support care and to transport patients into an ambulance.
The group learned some clinical duties of medical assistants from taking patient vital signs using a mannequin, drawing blood and taking a patient's medical history.
Students also heard from MCCTC marketing coordinator Jodi Glass, who explained the admission steps students would need to follow to be a part of the career center. They also heard from representatives from OhioMeansJobs and TRIO Educational Opportunity Center.
The trip was one of several the school participated in throughout the year to encourage its students to explore career path options after graduation.
Earlier in the school year students made visits to Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Salem Technical Center and Youngstown State University.
"We're winding down the school year and making sure our students are set up for the future," Tirone said.
