YOUNGSTOWN -- Three people were shot 10:50 p.m. Wednesday outside of a home on Pointview Avenue on the South Side.
Each of the three victims received minor injuries and took themselves to the hospital, said Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Department detective division. A vehicle also was hit by gunfire.
A report was not released on the crime as of 4 p.m. Thursday when the police department's records department closed.
Meanwhile, two South Side houses were shot up about 10 p.m. Wednesday -- one on East Judson Avenue and the other on Lanterman Avenue. The locations are a couple of miles apart from each other on the South Side.
Wednesday's gunfire followed a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon on Lane Drive on the North Side and the shooting of a female, 20, about the same time on Himrod Avenue near Pearl Street on the East Side.
The shooting on Lane Drive killed Ray'mon Sims, 22. Elijah J. May II, 18, is in the Mahoning County jail awaiting his arraignment at 1:30 p.m. today in Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of voluntary manslaughter and having weapons while not allowed.
Police believe Sims and another man drove from Lane Drive near Belmont Avenue after the shooting along Guadalupe Avenue, where their vehicle crashed into the front porch of a home, and both men fled one block to a home on Crandall Avenue. There ambulance personnel attended to Sims, but he was pronounced dead later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Simon said additional charges in the Lane Drive case are expected soon.
The female in the Himrod Avenue shooting was taken to St. Elizabeth and was in stable condition later. That shooting was not connected to the Lane Avenue shooting, Simon said.
BUSY DETECTIVES
Simon said Thursday that because there were so many locations to investigate Tuesday on Lane Drive, Guadalupe, Himrod and others, "virtually the entire detective bureau was out" investigating. Officers worked through a chaotic scene and spoke to "dozens of witnesses," he said.
Officers "did a phenomenal job," he said. It took a while, but eventually it became clear that all of the crime scenes except the one on Himrod Avenue were connected to the fatal shooting.
The Himrod shooting involved someone from a house on Pearl shooting at the vehicle containing the female, who was a passenger, and a male, 56. The vehicle was traveling down the road at the time of the shooting, police said. The vehicle was struck a couple of times.
The gunfire on East Judson Avenue on Wednesday night started with a ShotSpotter notification for the first block of East Judson. It indicated that 20 shots had been fired.
Police observed numerous bullet holes in the house, close to where several children had been, and seven fired bullet shell casings in the street.
Officers went to the 900 block of Lanterman Avenue and found bullet holes in the front of a house and eight spent bullet shell casings in the street in front of the home. The casings were from the same type of gun as the ones on Judson, police said.
No one was injured in either incident.
