AUSTINTOWN -- Troopers from the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal traffic crash Sunday afternoon that killed an Austintown man.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 2:36 p.m. Sunday on Mahoning Avenue, just east of Victoria Road.

Justin Bolash, 35, of Austintown, was driving a 2023 Aprilia motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, according to a news release from the patrol.

This was the first Mahoning County traffic fatality of the year, with five recorded at this time last year, according to Vindicator archives.

Frederick McNeal, 88, of Austintown, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra and was not injured.

Bolash was traveling west on Mahoning Avenue. McNeal was traveling east on Mahoning Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn into a private drive, turning into the path of Bolash, the patrol release states. Bolash braked to avoid the collision and was ejected from the motorcycle, striking McNeal's vehicle. Bolash was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
