WARREN -- An Alliance man with a criminal record of violence -- including a robbery conviction in California -- was arraigned Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on multiple felonies connected to an assault in Girard on Dec. 16, 2022.
Jaquane D. Peavy, 27, of South Morgan Avenue, through his attorney, pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, abduction, two counts of domestic violence, intimidation of a crime witness and felony and misdemeanor counts of violating a protection order.
The burglary count carries a repeat violent offender specification. If Peavy is found guilty of the burglary, he would face additional prison time.
Common Pleas Judge Sean O'Brien ruled that because Peavy poses a substantial risk to safety of the community, he will be held in the Trumbull County jail without bond.
Assistant Prosecutors Diane Barber and Gabriel Wildman said Peavy has a history of violent offenses; he is wanted by both Stark County and California authorities on parole and weapons violations. California authorities want him for violations of his parole after serving time for a 2018 robbery conviction.
In the local case, Peavy is accused of assaulting two victims -- a man and a woman -- in a Girard home, according to the report. The defendant also faces a charge of having weapons under disability that is connected to a July 27, 2022, incident in Liberty.
A menacing charge against Peavy connected to the same incident was dismissed in Girard Municipal Court.
According to a police report from Alliance, Peavy was arrested in that Stark County city on March 1, 2021, when officers responded to a 911 hangup. A victim could be overheard saying a man had struck her in the face, refusing to allow her to leave a West State Street home. The victim had injuries to the hand, chest and chin, according to police. An assault charge connected to that incident against Peavy was later dismissed in Alliance Municipal Court, records show.
