WARREN -- The Youngstown man accused in the Feb. 5 home invasion and slaying of 28-year-old Adam Spaid at 2109 Milton St. SE. has waived his right to a speedy trial.
Ronique K. Requel's jury trial has been reset in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court from May 8 until June 5.
Requel, 26, of 196 W. Myrtle Ave., appeared with his attorneys Ross Smith and Carlo Ciccone Tuesday before Judge Andrew D. Logan. Requel agreed to waive his right to a speedy trial which for incarcerated persons, is 90 days from the time of his arrest.
Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker had shared with the defense attorneys several items of evidence, including a coroner's report, DNA analysis and ballistics tests. Ciccone and Smith said they would need time to sift through it to properly prepare for trial.
Requel, who remains in custody in Trumbull County without bond, faces two counts of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of having weapons while under disability, one count of intimidation, all with a firearm specification and one count of receiving stolen property.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Struthers boy sits in the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center charged with three counts connected to the crime, including aggravated murder. According to police reports, Christian Chaney is one of several other people who were involved with Requel.
Police officers found Spaid mortally wounded at the Milton Street SE address while investigating a burglary.
Becker had said more than 30 rounds were shot during the home invasion that included five assailants.
Spaid, who had addresses in Warren and New Middletown, died after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital of major injuries, including apparent broken bones, a severe laceration and possible internal injuries, according to the police report.
