BOARDMAN -- An owner of a popular sushi restaurant was victimized by burglars twice within a 24-hour period.
Township police also are investigating a burglary at a pizza shop.
According to township police reports, officers investigated a burglary at Mizu restaurant, 60 Boardman Poland Road, overnight Saturday into Sunday. About eight hours earlier, a similar break-in occurred at the home of one of the restaurant owners in the 500 block of Deer Run Drive.
In both instances, safes with large amounts of cash were taken, the reports state.
A rear window was shattered as officers reported the forced entry at the home occurred between 10 a.m. Saturday and 12:18 a.m. Sunday. Footprints were found on an air conditioning unit.
The homeowner told police the missing items included two gold rings, about $300 from a main bedroom and a safe that contained about $4,000.
About 9:55 a.m. Sunday, police were called to the restaurant as employees found a rear door open. They thought they had locked it upon closing the night before, the report states.
Surveillance video from about 3:05 a.m. showed a BMW pull up to the rear door in the north parking lot. The license plate number was obscured with black tape, according to the report.
The video showed two people with hoods pulled up. They also were wearing face masks, gloves and baggy jeans. They entered through the kitchen door. They are later seen emerging with a safe, which they put into the trunk of the vehicle.
The two then went back into the restaurant, and one is seen with an unidentified object in his hand, the report states. The BMW is last seen on the video heading eastbound toward Sheldon Avenue.
Police found no signs of forced entry to the restaurant. The report stated about $10,000 was contained in the safe.
THIRD CASE
Township police also are investigating a third burglary, this one at the Domino's pizza shop at 7100 Lockwood Blvd., which was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
The report states about $727 was stolen from a register and a safe.
Surveillance video shows a heavy-set person with a slight limp and face covered with a mask or bandanna, the report states. The burglar is seen on video bending over, revealing a large tattoo on her lower back.
A manager told police she recognized the bandit on video as a former female employee who left work about six months earlier.
No arrests have been made in the three break-ins.
