Plans for Canfield dog park explained

CANFIELD TOWNSHIP — Bruce Neff, representing the Canfield Heritage Foundation, told trustees at their meeting Tuesday that a temporary dog park could be in place as early as this summer.

“We were originally looking at having an ultimate Frisbee field on the Loghurst property,” Neff said.

He said that idea could now be incorporated into a dog park complex on the back acreage of the Loghurst property. He explained that the Canfield Heritage Foundation operates the Loghurst historic farm house and museum. In an effort to bring more opportunities to the site, the sports field had been talked about.

“Then we found out about the Marge Hartman Foundation that helps fund charities and dog parks,” Neff said.

He said the foundation supported the dog parks in Boardman Park and Austintown Township Park. He felt the foundation would also support one in Canfield Township at the Loghurst site.

Neff gave trustees a DPH drawing that showed the design for the dog park. Neff said he is looking for dog lovers from Canfield Township who would serve on a dog park board.

Neff also spoke of having a restroom facility and covered pavilions as part of the project. Neff wanted to keep the trustees aware of what was happening with the plans.

Switching gears, trustees approved the purchase of a 2023 Ford F-550 cab and chassis with a stainless steel Galion Dump Body and a Western Pro Plus angling 9-foot plow and uplift kit as quoted by Cross Truck Equipment Co. at a cost not to exceed $87,500. The price was the state purchase price from Tri-State Ford of East Liverpool.

Trustee Marie Cartwright said after speaking with the township administrator and road department, she was going to vote for this purchase.

“After this I hope no large trucks are going to be purchased for that department,” she said.

In other business, trustees:

l Approved Cross Brothers Landscaping for the township community park fertilization maintenance contract at a cost of $1,745 per treatment, not to exceed $5,235. It was noted the Canfield Soccer Club will fertilize all athletic fields three times this season as per their contract;

l Approved Easton Lawn Service for the Township Community Park lawn mowing maintenance at a cost of $199 per cut, not to exceed 30 cuts (or $5,970).
