Liberty police arrest man in city shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Liberty police arrested Quin’daz V. Stubbs, 26, in a 5:30 a.m. shooting Saturday of a woman, 23, in the 200 block of Benita Avenue on Youngstown’s North Side.

Stubbs is being held in the Mahoning County jail on a possible felonious assault charge, according to jail records and a Youngstown police press release.

The shooting victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.

The news release states that Liberty police began receiving calls at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a shooting on Youngstown’s North Side. Liberty police relayed the information to Youngstown police dispatch while Liberty officers went to Gypsy Lane on the Youngstown-Liberty border to see if anyone was fleeing into the township.

Youngstown police were dispatched to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for a gunshot victim and to determine where the shooting took place. Youngstown officers spoke to the victim and determined the shooting occurred in the 200 block of Benita Avenue on the North Side.

Liberty officers, meanwhile, saw two men emerge from the area of Lane Manor Apartments, 465 Gypsy Lane, in Youngstown. The men ran across the street to the former North Side Hospital. Liberty officers tried to make an investigative stop, but the men fled on foot. Liberty officers apprehended them, and a Liberty police dog was brought to the area to assist, a police report states.

Liberty police notified Youngstown police about the arrest and possible connection to the shooting, and Youngstown crime scene investigators were sent to the area to investigate. After numerous interviews, it was determined the Liberty police did apprehend a suspect in the shooting, the Youngstown press release states.

The second man who Liberty police arrested was released but could be charged later according to police.
