43-year-old pleads to robbery, theft

WARREN — A 43-year-old Vienna man pleaded guilty Thursday to two charges dealing with a November 2022 robbery at a Dollar General in Liberty, plus the theft of cigarettes from a Girard gas station.

Kyle Lutz of Sodom Hutchings Road, appeared before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice, who told the defendant to report to the probation department for an investigation of his background prior to sentencing.

Lutz faces a possible three years for robbery felony conviction and then another six months in jail for the petty theft misdemeanor.

According to police reports, Liberty officers were dispatched Nov. 28 to the Dollar Store, 44245 Logan Way. Police say around 5:30 p.m., the man went into the store and “began to collect items.” He then ran out of the store with the products without paying, according to a police report.

A clerk followed him into the parking lot, where a struggle ensued and the clerk was hit as the assailant took off.

Lutz, who has been incarcerated since Jan. 31, remains in Trumbull County jail without bond.
