WARREN — A Youngstown man was arraigned Friday on murder charges connected to a Feb. 5 home invasion and slaying of a 28-year-old Adam Spaid at 2109 Milton St. SE.

Prosecutors say charges are pending against four other people who might be involved in the crimes.

Ronieque K. Requel, 26, of 196 W. Myrtle Ave., Youngstown, pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated murder, both with firearm specifications, one count of aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, one count of aggravated burglary with a firearm specification, one count having weapons while under disability with a firearm specification, one count of intimidation with a firearm specification and one count of receiving stolen property.

A special report of the Trumbull County grand jury on Thursday returned the indictments that carry a maximum life prison term with varying amounts of time before parole eligibility.

Requel is being charged in the home invasion and the death of Spaid. Police officers found the victim mortally wounded at the Milton Street SE address while investigating a burglary.

Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Sean O’Brien ruled that Requel be held in Trumbull County jail without bond after he heard some details of the case from Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker.

Becker said Requel posed a “great threat to the community,” and has threatened victims and witnesses in the case.

“You can hear him threatening to kill people on the 911 call, and he also made threats that were overheard during his calls inside the jail,” Becker said.

Requel has been in custody at Trumbull County jail since early Sunday.

The man who died from gunshot wounds, Spaid, had addresses in Warren and New Middletown, and his funeral was Thursday afternoon. According to a Warren police report, he died after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with major injuries, including apparent broken bones, a severe laceration and possible internal injuries.

Becker said more than 30 rounds were shot during the home invasion that included five assailants.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office said it is handling the probe of Spaid’s death. There is no ruling yet on the cause and manner. An autopsy will be done, a coroner’s investigator said.

Mahoning County court records show Requel was sentenced in 2019 by Judge Anthony D’Apolito to serve six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to a six-count indictment showing charges of breaking and entering, vandalism and receiving stolen property for a 2018 incident.

Becker after the hearing credited the work of Warren police detectives for getting the arrest, and tips from the public in getting the indictment within the week.

Police officers responded shortly after 1 a.m. Feb. 5 to 2109 Milton for a report of a burglary in progress with shots being fired. When officers arrived, according to a report, they found Spaid with multiple wounds. Spaid was transported to the Youngstown hospital where he died.

Requel’s next court date will be 8:30 a.m. Feb. 28 before Judge Andrew D. Logan.
