Teams pay tribute to former player, coach

GIRARD — The Girard and Hubbard high school boys basketball teams paid tribute to former Girard player and Hubbard assistant coach Adam Connelly, 21, who died in a car crash Nov. 4, with the inaugural Adam Connelly Memorial Basketball Game at Girard High School on Friday.

Connelly played high school soccer and basketball for Girard and served as an assistant coach of the Hubbard boys basketball program. The annual game will take place during the Indians and Eagles second match-up each year, with the winning team receiving a memorial trophy.

Before the game, his parents, Amy and Matthew, and brothers, Ryan and Jacob, were presented with a framed No. 1 Girard jersey and a Hubbard coaching shirt.
