Boardman eatery victim of telescam

BOARDMAN — The Subway eatery inside the Boardman Walmart was scammed out of at least $300 by someone who called and claimed to be a Youngstown Drug Enforcement Agency officer.

According to a police report, the person called Friday night and spoke to a 17-year-old worker. The caller disclosed information about the owner and the location of the store before telling the worker to take money out of the safe and load money onto a gift card. The caller then told the worker to tell him the gift card number before placing it and its receipt into the store safe.

The employee, who called police the next morning, said at least $300 was loaded onto the card, but could not be sure until the owner arrived to open the safe.
