3 brothers sentenced for assault

YOUNGSTOWN — Twins Keith E. and Kyle A. Ellison, both 21, were sentenced to 5 to 7 1/2 years in prison Tuesday after a jury found them guilty of kidnapping, robbery and assault. They are of Shadyside Drive in Boardman.

Their brother, Anthony Ellison, 23, of Valerie Drive in Youngstown, was found guilty of abduction and assault and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The three were convicted at trial early last month before Judge Anthony D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. The jury found them not guilty of some offenses.

The three were accused of abducting, robbing and assaulting a man, 24, of Loveland Road, on the South Side. Testimony in the trial indicated the three brothers knew the victim and his brother.

There was testimony the brothers accused the victim of stealing marijuana or money from one or more of the brothers. The victim testified to being “upset and confused” by being forced into a car that morning and then being assaulted. He told jurors that Kyle, Anthony and Keith Ellison all were involved in parts of the assault.

The victim’s brother, 23, testified to seeing the end of the episode when his brother was brought back home.

The brother said he had been friends with all three Ellisons for about seven years. His brother did not hang out with them as much, he said.

On Oct. 5, 2021, the brother woke up to some noise near the family’s home on Loveland Road and saw a car in the street and then saw Anthony Ellison pulling his brother out of the car and punching his brother in the face. The brother testified that Anthony said the victim “stole some weed.”

A co-defendant in the case, Undrel Fletcher, 24, testified in the trial. He was indicted on most of the same offenses as the Ellisons, but agreed to testify in exchange for a recommendation from prosecutors that he serve no prison time.
