Woman injured in assault

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A woman, 43, was assaulted at a home in the first block of St. Louis Avenue on the South Side on Tuesday morning, leading police to look for a man they suspected of being involved.

When police arrived for the 8:41 a.m. call for a fight or assault, they found the woman inside the house with a bloody paper towel to her mouth.

Her head, face, arm, neck, legs and clothing were soiled in blood and her upper lip was severely lacerated and several teeth appeared to be missing, police said.

One eye was swelled shut and the other opened only a little bit. Her head was swollen. When officers tried to talk to her, the woman could not talk back because of her injuries and crying. A bloody tooth was on the floor near the woman, a police report states.

Officers obtained information from two other people at the home, and officers went looking for the man they suspected may have been involved.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. Crime scene investigators took photos of the living room area where the episode apparently took place.
