YOUNGSTOWN -- The suspect in an Aug. 26 shooting death, who took the body to Youngstown police, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to reduced charges as part of a plea deal in Mahoning County Common Pleas court.
Jacques Peterman-Oliver, 45, who was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury on murder and tampering with evidence charges, pleaded guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter and having weapons under disability.
Peterman-Oliver, who was represented by a host of lawyers, including Edward Hartwig and Michael Rich, will be sentenced by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by a probation officer.
The reduced charges include a gun specification that adds three years to a potential prison sentence. Court officials say Peterman-Oliver is looking at a maximum sentence of 17 to 22 1/2 years.
Krichbaum has revoked Peterman-Oliver's bond, and he will stay in Mahoning County jail until his Feb. 28 sentencing hearing. The plea deal headed off a jury trial that was scheduled to begin Jan. 3 in Krichbaum's court.
Peterman-Oliver is accused of shooting Cameron Dyer, 36, about 9 p.m. Aug. 26 at a gas station at the corner of Logan and Saranac avenues.
After Dyer was shot, police said Peterman-Oliver put his body in his car and drove to the city police station on West Boardman Street.
Peterman-Oliver went inside and left the body in his car. He was taken into custody.
