YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set at $1 million for Mikese E. Stevens, 23, when he was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court on two counts of murder.

He's charged in the Dec. 20 shooting deaths of Kimberly Kalasky, 41, and Joseph Sanders, 51. Bond was $500,000 on each count.

Stevens remains in the Mahoning County jail and will return to court at 9:15 a.m. next Friday for a preliminary hearing.

According to a police news release, Kalasky and Sanders were found shot to death in a home in the 1900 block of Cherry Hill Avenue on the West Side. A Youngstown police news release states that Kalasky and Sanders were "shot to death within the home."

Police announced Wednesday that they had arrested Stevens, who had been an acquaintance of Kalasky. Police detectives and crime scene personnel recovered a firearm they believe to be the murder weapon, the release states.

When police and ambulance personnel entered the home, an officer observed dried blood near both people and spent bullet shell casings, the report states. The victims were found on the floor of the living room. No signs of forced entry were found at the home, the report states.
