Warren church gets new pastor from Youngstown
The Rev. Shane K. Floyd, a Youngstown native, has been named the new pastor of Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African American Church in Warren, which has been serving the community for nearly 150 years.
Raised in Youngstown, it was in the Junior Church of Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church that Floyd developed his leadership abilities.
He became pastor of Residence Park United Methodist Church and assistant director of Wesley Community Center where he served for two years.
Floyd has 24 years of pastoral experience serving churches in Dayton, Oxford and Cleveland.
In 2005, Floyd served as the CEO for the Carter G. Woodson Institute in Dayton for several years and continued his passion for education by eventually becoming an educational consultant.
In addition, he also served as program director for the Ohio State University Office of Minority Affairs Young Scholars Program, hosted an internet radio talk show “Reach the Masses,” and currently serves as the owner of Steward Frank Transportation in Youngstown.
In 2011, Floyd became the Business and Community Outreach Director for the Black Alliance for Educational Options in Cleveland. Its mission was to increase access to high-quality educational options for black children by actively supporting parental-choice policies and programs that empower low-income and working-class black families.
He also was a part of the ministerial staff at St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church of Cleveland from 2021 to 2022 under the leadership of Pastor Henry F. Curtis IV.
Floyd has degrees from Central State University, United Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in educational administration from Miami University.
He has numerous affiliations including Prince Hall 32 Degree Mason, Khnemu Foundation, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, NAACP and 100 Black Men.
“I am humbled to be appointed as pastor of Grace A.M.E. Church. I look forward to our role as servant leaders within the city of Warren and placing emphasis on community engagement demonstrating that.
“The world is our parish.” Floyd said.
Grace A.M.E. invites the community to a “Meet and Greet” to welcome Floyd 12:30 to 2 pm. Nov. 13 at the church, 1137 Main St.
