The 18-year-old accused of slaying a Girard man Oct. 30 at a Columbus gas station has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury.

Keimariyon Ross of Maynard Avenue in Columbus is charged in connection to the shooting death of 21-year-old Kevin Sobnosky of Girard. Police say Sobnosky was shot because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ross is charged with two counts of murder including specifications of brandishing a firearm in a drive-by shooting; three counts attempted murder that also include the drive-by shooting specifications; three counts of felonious assault that include the drive-by shooting specifications; and one count of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle.

The indictment was handed up this week with an arraignment scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

Sobnosky died after being struck by a bullet while he and three friends were parked at a Sheetz gas station on North Cassady Avenue on the northeast side of Columbus. The shooting happened just before 4 a.m.

Ross had turned himself in to Columbus police on Nov. 13 after a warrant was issued for his part in the shooting. He remains in Franklin County jail, while one other man also has been arrested in the shooting.

Sobnosky attended St. Rose School in Girard from kindergarten through eighth grade. He was a 2019 graduate of Girard High School and a valedictorian of his class. Following graduation, he attended Youngstown State University on a full academic scholarship as a member of the Honors College. He was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science and was set to graduate in the spring.
