WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Bonnie Viele, Bill Williams, Robin Zambrini, Michael Mogg, Jerome Crowe, Michael Kerr, Ryan Hallapy, Cathy Cummings and Mayor Ben Kyle

Council:

• Heard from Williams he will end his term as council’s representative on the Eagle Joint Fire District board Dec. 31. Council will need to find a replacement as well as a resident from the city to serve on the board starting in 2023. Hubbard Township also selects a trustee and a township resident for the fire board;

• Approved advertising for qualifications for general engineering and planning services. Kyle said this allows for the city to select a firm for larger scale engineering projects such as waterlines;

• Heard from Kyle Hubbard High School art students painted and decorated a snow plow and soon will decorate the municipal building windows for the holidays;

• Heard from Kyle the city received $116,201 in Ohio Public Works Commission funding for street resurfacing and Hubbard Township received $74,999 for Thomas Road improvements;

• Reminded residents they can still sign up for gas aggregation at a rate of $3.57 per mcf with Constellation Energy. Information is available at the mayor’s office;

• Heard from Zambrini the Hubbard Historical Society will host open houses 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10 at the historic McBride House with demonstrations on how to scan old photos;

• Heard from Williams the Eagle Joint Fire District has been addressing financial and staffing issues, and is able to stay in the confines of the budget. He said while the roster has 50 people, there is between 15 and 25 actually working. Williams said the board is doing what it can with the money it has;

• Approved a two-year contract extension for trash and recycling pickup through January 2025.

WHAT: Board of Education meeting Oct. 17

PRESENT: Amanda O’Neill, Donald Newell, Anna Martin, Josh Barr and William Cummings

The board:

• Approved an agreement with Hubbard city for a school resource officer from July 2022 to June 2024;

• Hired Susan Paris and Jonelle Wilson to serve as administrative substitutes and consultants for the Food Service Department, effective Oct. 4 through June 30, 2023, at a rate of $37.50 per hour;

• Approved Diane McAllen to serve as head cook on special assignment for the Food Service Department, effective Oct. 4 through June 30, 2023, to be paid an annual stipend of $10,000, prorated;

• Accepted the resignation of Grace Thayer as K-6 nurse effective Sept. 30 and Richard Wagner, custodian, effective Oct. 14;

• Approved Delisa Rosine, K-6 long-term substitute nurse, for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year; and approved Erika Kopanic to assist with health care “as needed,” at $100 per day;

• Received donations of more than $5,500 for the Hubbard pool’s new steps used by swimmers for diving off the sides.
