Boy hit by car on Elm Street

YOUNGSTOWN — A boy, 8, was hit by a car in front of 1898 Elm St. at 4:03 p.m. Monday.

A media release from the Youngstown Police Department states that the child ran in front of a car that was traveling south on Elm Street near New York and Benita avenues on the North Side.

The boy was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was stabilized. He was then transferred to Akron Childrenás Hospital, where he was in critical condition, the report states.

The driver, whose hometown was not provided, is a woman, 28. The crash was not a hit-skip, and the driver was not arrested, the release states.

The boy was on his back in the street when firefighters arrived and apparently had been hit in the front passenger area of the vehicle, according to reports. The police department, fire department and AMR Ambulance responded to the scene.
