Woman indicted in Aug. 12 robbery of Boardman credit union

YOUNGSTOWN — Bobbisue Averill, 42, of Youngstown, was indicted Thursday for felony robbery in an Aug. 12 robbery of the Seven-Seventeen Credit Union, 7371 California Ave., Boardman.

She could get about eight years in prison if convicted.

Boardman police said a woman entered the credit union at about 11:30 a.m. and handed the teller a threatening, handwritten note demanding money. The woman got a small amount of money and left the bank. She got into the passenger side of a black Ford Explorer, a police report states.

After circulating a surveillance image of the suspect, police received several tips identifying the woman as Averill. Early Saturday, police got another tip that Averill was at Jordan’s Market in Youngstown, the report states.

She was booked into the Mahoning County jail Aug. 13 on the robbery and several other charges, including an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge from May, police said.

POLICE CHASE

Also indicted was Khamray J. Bonner, 29, of Kensington Avenue, on failure to comply with the order of a police officer with a gun specification, failure to stop after an accident, tampering with evidence, having weapons while not allowed and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

The charges were the result of a police chase Aug. 10 that started on the North Side with a 12:56 p.m. traffic stop at Delaware Avenue and Griffith Street.

During a traffic stop for allegedly not making a complete stop at a stop sign, the driver of a pickup truck initially stopped, but when officers stepped out of their vehicle, the truck went forward again.

An officer saw the driver’s whole face in his side mirror, according to a report. The driver fled at high speed, continuing into the East Side, ignoring traffic signals and reaching speeds of up to 75 mph and eventually heading into the Liberty-Hubbard area. The chase lasted about 10 minutes.

The vehicle left the road three times, and once the driver did a U-turn in a residential yard in an attempt to evade officers, the report states. The pursuit was terminated on Lansdowne Boulevard near Atkinson Avenue on the East Side. The vehicle continued north on Lansdowne, losing control while trying to turn onto Applegate Road and striking a 2010 Ford Escape. The impact injured the driver, Charles Lee, who was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel but refused to be transported to a hospital.

The fleeing truck was registered to Bonner, whose photo in a police database matched the face the officer had seen in the truck’s side mirror, the report states.

Bonner was not allowed to possess firearms because of two February 2021 felony drug possession convictions, the report adds.

Officers went to Bonner’s home Aug. 12 and arrested him on warrants on the fleeing and failure to comply charges. He was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court and pleaded not guilty to the failure to stop, and no plea was required on the fleeing charge.

FELONIOUS ASSAULT

Also indicted was Tameka N. Kennedy-Nash, 43, of Lauderdale Avenue, on felonious assault with a notice of prior conviction and repeat-violent offender specification.

Her indictment alleges she committed the felonious assault Aug. 2 and caused or attempted to cause serious physical harm to a man while using a knife.

She previously was convicted of a felony burglary in a 2004 Mahoning County case, the indictment states in explaining why the notice of prior conviction and repeat violent offender specifications were filed.

If convicted of the new charge, Kennedy-Nash could get more than eight years in prison.
