Police file more charges in fair fracas

Teen reported to have gun in custody of juvenile court

CANFIELD -- Additional charges have been filed over last Saturday night's fracas on the Canfield Fairgrounds involving 75 to 100 people and resulting in 10 arrests.

According to Wes Skeels, Mahoning County Juvenile Court administrator, the teenager who was found with a gun has been charged with two more felonies -- aggravated riot with a firearm specification, which carries a mandatory three years of incarceration in addition to the sentence, and tampering with evidence. The teen already has been arraigned in juvenile court on a felony charge of inducing panic and four misdemeanor charges.

Skeels said the teen will be arraigned in juvenile court on these new charges at 8:45 a.m. Monday.

Six other male teens have been charged as a result of the fight, Skeels said. The boys have each been charged with fourth-degree aggravated riot felonies, two counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

A teen girl was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

They will be arraigned in juvenile court between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Wednesday, Skeels said.

Three adults are seeing their cases proceed in Canfield's county court.

Diamone Boykin, 18, Jalynn Boykin, 19, both of Youngstown, and Antwanett Jones, 19, of Conyers, Ga., all face misdemeanor resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges.

The three will appear again before Judge Molly Johnson on Oct. 14, court records show. The two Boykins were given a personal bond, while Jones' bond was set at $2,500 because she is from out of state.

INCIDENT REPORT

According to a report of the incidents released Tuesday, the violence appeared to take place on the south side of the fairgrounds before some witnesses reported shots being fired near Gate C.

No one apparently was injured in the melees, but reports showed two vehicles -- a 2020 Dodge Durango and a 2018 Kia Forte -- had bullet holes.

The report states that two fair police officers saw a fight start between four females in front of The Beast ride near Milton Drive about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The officers tried to break it up but couldn't. The crowd of fighters grew as sheriff deputies tried to subdue the combatants with pepper spray.

Sheriff Jerry Greene said security was beefed up on the fairgrounds on Sunday and Monday, and no other serious incidents occurred.
